The Admission Point Score (APS) is the system used by South African universities to determine whether you qualify for admission to a specific programme.
How APS Is Calculated
Your APS is calculated by converting your matric subject scores (1-7) into points. Each subject level corresponds to a specific point value:
- Level 7 (80-100%) = 7 points
- Level 6 (70-79%) = 6 points
- Level 5 (60-69%) = 5 points
- Level 4 (50-59%) = 4 points
- Level 3 (40-49%) = 3 points
- Level 2 (30-39%) = 2 points
- Level 1 (0-29%) = 1 point
APS Requirements by University
Different universities and programmes have different APS requirements. Generally, a bachelor degree programme requires an APS of at least 23-30 depending on the institution and field of study.
